English: Classical breakdown of economic activity into distinguishes sectorsː
- The primary sector supplies raw materials and unprocessed food: agriculture, forestry, fishing, hunting and mining.
- The secondary sector processes the raw materials from the primary sector into goods: industry, construction, crafts and other non-industrialized manufacturing.
- The tertiary sector delivers services ("intangible goods"), trade and traffic; it includes transport, marketing, commerce, attention, access and experience.
- The quaternary sector is defined in the English Wikipedia as the knowledge-based part of the economy, which includes information technology, media, research and development, consultation, education, financial planning and designing. In other languages or countries the quaternary sector is the public sector. In Wikimedia Commons it is therefore preferred not to use the term quaternary sector, but to use more specific terms.
